Welcome to the web site of the Big Spring Watershed Association Inc. of Pennsylvania. BSWA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the restoration, protection, and monitoring of Big Spring Creek near Newville, Pennsylvania and the protection of its watershed. Big Spring Creek is the 5th largest spring in Pennsylvania. It is one of the world’s most productive limestone spring creeks. Big Spring was considered by anglers to have been the premier limestone brook trout stream in the Eastern United States. Our organization is made up of citizens, scientists, fishermen, and naturalists trying to restore Big Spring to its once famous heritage.

BSWA was organized in mid-2001 to coordinate efforts to improve and protect the health of the Big Spring Watershed. We hope to aid in restoring the stream and reestablishing a wild, natural reproducing brook trout population in its waters, as well as protecting the stream for residents, visitors, and future generations

To meet these objectives, the BSWA will work with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, elected representatives and interested officials in developing, maintaining and advancing programs for Big Spring’s general welfare.

Please note you can find us on the web at Bigspring-pa.com or Bigspring-pa.org. We use both names because of placement on the web and it’s easier for most people to use a .com address. This in no way compromises our nonprofit status.
